The shape and the material used for constructing have a significant effect on the insensitivity and knife life.
Due to the alloyed tool steel of the Y-option, it is approx. 5 % harder than the X-version. This means that a longer tool life can be secured. In comparison, however, the stator knife is more susceptible to impurities, which can lead to breakage more quickly.
Cutting tools of this variant are hardened throughout, which means that this hardness remains persistent from the edge to the core. Due to that the wear is homogenous in relation to its life span.
However, this version must not be armoured or welded on, as it negatively influences the structure of the components. Consequently, fractures and machine damage are possible.
Fastening in the machine:
It is imperative that the stator knife is only installed to knife holders or knife crossbars with intact supports, as otherwise the attachment may cause breakage.
