The Y-variant of this cutting tool is made of alloyed tool steel. Compared to the X-version, it is approx. 5 % harder and thus offers longer operating time. At the same time, however, the susceptibility to impurities raises, which can lead to fractures more rapidly.

Components of this variation are hardened throughout, which means that this hardness remains the same from the edge to the core. Due to that the wear is homogenous in relation to its life cycle.

To avoid breakage and machine damage, it is crucial not to armour or weld on this type, as it will seriously weaken the structure.
