The Y-variation of this cutting tool is made of alloyed tool steel. In comparison to the X-option, it is approx. 5 % harder and thus offers longer service life. At the same time, however, the susceptibility to impurities raises, which can lead to fractures more quickly.
Components of this version are hardened throughout, which means that this hardness remains the same from the edge to the core. Due to that the wear is even in relation to its life cycle.
Hardfacing or welding on this variant should be avoided, as the structure will otherwise be significantly weakened. This can lead to breakages and machine damage.
