This deflector wedge is an ideal fit for the Herbold SMS model from Herbold Meckesheim.
Cutting performance and durability:
The cutting geometry and the material used for constructing have a significant influence on the resistance and longevity.
In the Y-option, this cutting tool is made of alloyed tool steel. The deflector wedge in this version is approx. 5% harder than the X-variation, which results in a longer tool life. However, the texture is also more brittle. Due to that it can be more fragile if there is a high level of impurities.
Due to the through-hardening process, there is a consistent hardness from the edge layer to the core. This ensures uniform wear over the service life of the deflector wedge.
It is imperative to avoid the welding on or hardfacing of components of this variant, as the structure will otherwise be severely impaired. Consequently, breakage and machine damage may occur.
Fastening in the machine:
It is imperative that the deflector wedge is only affixed to knife holders or knife crossbars with flat supports, as otherwise the attachment may cause breakage.

The spare part measures 485mm in length, 100mm in width and 28mm in height.
