The cutting shape and the material used for constructing have a considerable influence on the insensitivity and product lifespan.

In the Y-variant, this item is made of alloyed tool steel. The cutter in this variation is approx. 5% harder than the X-version, which results in a longer tool life. However, the texture is also more brittle. Due to that it can be more fragile if there is a high level of impurities.

Due to the through-hardening process, there is a persistent hardness from the edge layer to the core. This ensures homogenous wear over the service life of the cutter.

However, this option must not be armoured or welded on, as it negatively influences the structure of the cutting tools. Consequently, fractures and machine damage are possible.
