Cutting performance and durability:

The cutting geometry and the material used for constructing have a considerable effect on the resistance and durability.

Compared to the Y-, X-, W- and W9-variations, the W8-version wears more quickly, but in return demonstrates high toughness. This variant is resistant to many impurities and is accordingly suitable for utilizations with demanding requirements. This W8-variation has an advantage in terms of sustainability. This is because worn out cutting tools can usually be re-welded or re-armoured without resulting in breakage or machine damage. The material is a cold work steel.

Due to the through-hardening process, there is a uniform hardness from the edge layer to the core. This ensures consistent wear over the service life of the counter knife.
